Angola and Djibouti define areas for expanding cooperation

Angola and Djibouti on Thursday expressed their intention to cooperate in various sectors, including security, industry, trade and logistics, transport and infrastructure, especially in the field of energy.

The intention was expressed during talks between the delegations of both countries, led by the ministers of Foreign Affairs of Angola, Téte António, and of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Djibouti, Mahmoud Ali Youssou.

The sharing of experiences in port management and the promotion of exchanges between private business sectors were also emphasized.

On the occasion, the two countries recognized the need to collaborate in the preparation and execution of port projects, taking advantage of Angola’s excellent geographical conditions and the significant size of Djibouti’s port infrastructure.

This collaboration aims to facilitate the mobility of products and services, especially in the context of the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Other aspects related
to air transport and in the technical-scientific field, areas considered relevant for joint development, were also analyzed.

As for multilateralism, the deepening of bilateral relations within the African Union, with a view to promoting a common African agenda that benefits both countries and the region in general, also deserved attention during the talks held.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Djibouti praised the efforts of the Angolan Government, saying that Angola serves as an inspiration for many African countries.

Relations of friendship and cooperation between the Republic of Angola and Djibouti have been strengthened, especially after the signing of three legal instruments of cooperation, which took place in February this year, on the sidelines of the 43rd Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union.

These relations are considered excellent and increasingly cooperative in the most varied areas of common interest.

Djibouti, located in the Horn of Africa, is a predominantly Fren
ch- and Arabic-speaking country.

The landscape is characterised by scrubland, volcanic formations and the beaches of the Gulf of Aden.

The country is home to one of the saltiest bodies of water in the world, Lake Assal, below sea level in the Danakil Desert.

There are settlements of the nomadic Afar along the Abbe salt lake, which features chimney-like mineral formations.
