Statement by the Treasury Board of Canada on Flooding in the National Capital Region

OTTAWA, ONTARIO – Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat

The following statement was made today by the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat in response to the floods in the National Capital Region:

Recent flooding in the area has resulted in local evacuations, as well as the closure of bridges and roads. As a result, the Government of Canada advises its employees not to go to their offices on Monday, May 8, in order to cede passage to emergency services:

They normally use the interprovincial bridges.

They work in the federal buildings in Gatineau because they will be closed.

While flooding continues to worsen in several regions of Ontario and Quebec, the safety of our employees and our communities in affected communities is our top priority.

Further information will be provided as it becomes available. The Government of Canada, through the Government Operations Center, continues to monitor and assess carefully the national flood situation as it continues to evolve.
