SOUTH AFRICA’S ONLY POET LAUREATE, WILLIAM KEROPETSE KGOSITSILE TO BE ACCORDED SPECIAL OFFICIAL FUNERAL

PRETORIA, President Jacob Zuma has accorded the late Professor William Keorapetse Kgositsile, South Africa’s only poet laureate, a special Official Funeral, to be held on Jan 16.

This was confirmed here Sunday by Presidential spokesperson Bongani Ngqulung, who also disclosed that Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver the eulogy in praise of the late poet and former anti-apartheid struggle stalwart.

Kgositsile was also a recipient of the National Order of Ikhamanga for his contribution to the field of literature. The National Poet Laureate died last Wednesday at the age of 79.

President Jacob Zuma has also ordered the national flag be flown at half-mast at every flag station in the country on Tuesday, Jan 16, 2018, the day of the funeral. Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver the eulogy at the funeral. The Department of Arts and Culture as well as the Kgositsile family will communicate further details of the Special Official Funeral, said Ngqulunga.
