ABUJA: The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun, announced on Tuesday that Nigeria and Belgium are set to strengthen their economic ties with a focus on enhancing food security. This development comes after a key meeting aimed at exploring collaborative opportunities in agriculture and food security.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Mr Mohammed Manga, Director of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry of Finance, revealed in a signed statement from Abuja that discussions between Mr Edun and the Belgian Ambassador, Mr Pieter Leenknegt, are underway to facilitate cooperation in these critical sectors.
During the meeting, Mr Edun pointed out Nigeria’s improving economic indicators, including declining inflation, price stability, and increased savings in the federation account. He emphasized the government’s ongoing support for farmers through sustainable policies designed to boost agricultural productivity and reiterated President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to macroeconomic reforms.
Manga further noted that Ambassador Leenknegt expressed Belgium’s interest in deepening economic relations with Nigeria for mutual benefits. He quoted Leenknegt as saying that the meeting represents a significant step towards strengthening economic ties between the two nations and that both countries will continue to explore opportunities for cooperation.
