REGINA, SASKATCHEWAN – As part of Habitat for Humanity Day, the Honorable Ralph Goodale, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, on behalf of the Honorable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Family, Children and Social Development and Minister Responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, and the Honorable Tina Beaudry-Mellor, Minister of Social Services and Minister responsible for Saskatchewan Housing Corporation, today announced $ 1 million in funding to support chapters and sections of Habitat for Humanity in Saskatchewan. These funds will contribute to the realization of Habitat’s mission for the “
The Government of Canada, through Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), and the Government of Saskatchewan, through the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation (SHC) Of the Federal-Provincial Affordable Housing Investment Agreement (IDLA).
This contribution was also highlighted by a groundbreaking of two new Habitat for Humanity homes in Prince Albert.
Over the past three years, the province has proclaimed Habitat for Humanity Day in Saskatchewan on the first Friday in May.
The province’s total commitment to Habitat for Humanity has reached $ 9.8 million since May 2009. This includes $ 1 million under the federal-provincial Affordable Housing Investment Agreement (IDLA) Under the agreement reached in April 2017 with Habitat for Humanity.
Habitat for Humanity’s innovative model of intervention offers families the chance to stabilize their housing conditions and achieve their goal of homeownership. Each partner family selected by Habitat for Humanity dedicates 500 hours to the construction of their home or other housing units in Habitat.
