The directive MiFID II will come into force on 3 January 2018, requires all financial services firms in Europe keep records of all services, activities and transactions for at least five years. The registers must include all electronic and instant messaging communications, telephone and SMS conversations related to the completion of a transaction or the intention to make one, whether or not the transaction is successful. The Directive aims to make financial markets in Europe more resilient, transparent and investor friendly.
