BETHANY BEACH, DE- Professional tennis returns to Bethany Beach with the seventh annual ResortQuest Pro Women’s Open at Sea Colony, to be held June 4-11, 2017, on the clay courts at the Sea Colony Tennis Center, located south of Bethany Beach on West Way Drive, just west of Kent Avenue.
Again sponsored by ResortQuest by Wyndham Vacation Rentals, as well as the United States Tennis Association (USTA), UBS Financial and the Sea Colony community, this singles and doubles tournament draws nationally- and internationally-ranked women tennis players seeking higher world rankings and a share of the event’s now $25,000 in prize money.
For the first six years, the beach and tennis resort USTA Pro Circuit event offered a $10,000 purse — the payout for entry level pro tournaments. This year, the USTA increased the prize money to $25,000, which will attract higher ranked players, some of which may have played in Grand Slam tournaments.
The event draws players from throughout the world, with last year’s tournament attracting players from more than a dozen countries on five continents.
Qualifying matches will be held June 4-5, with the main draw — for singles and doubles — beginning on Tuesday, June 6. The tournament concludes with the doubles finals on Saturday, June 10, and the singles finals on Sunday, June 11.
Admission to the tournament is free and the public is encouraged to attend.
In addition to singles and doubles play, the tournament events include a Junior Play Day on Wednesday, June 7.
In its current poll, Tennis Resorts Online ranked Sea Colony among the world’s Top 20 camps and a Top 50 resort. A 2012 and 2016 USTA Outstanding Facility of the Year, Sea Colony is ranked among Tennis’ “Top 50 Tennis Resorts in the U.S.” — including No. 3 in the Mid-Atlantic.
With 34 tennis courts, including six indoor and 14 Har-Tru, Sea Colony offers a wide variety of camps, clinics, and private lessons throughout the year for players of all ages and skill levels.
